The Archives of the Big Bend is home to the University Archives of Sul Ross State University and all its campuses, as well as collections created or associated with the Trans-Pecos/greater Big Bend region. While our scope encompasses all nine counties west of the Pecos River, the majority of our collections relate to the tri-county area of Brewster, Presidio, and Jeff Davis Counties.
While most of our collections consist of mainly manuscript materials (correspondence, notes, memos, journals, ledgers, etc.), we also house and provide access to thousands of materials in a wide variety of formats. These include over 50,000 photographs, over 400 maps, over 120 oral histories, nearly all newspapers from the tri-county area, approximately 500 vertical files, and over 7,000 monographs.
