Q. Why should I search individual databases in Databases A-Z?
The Library pays for access to over 100 subscription databases and collections providing access to hundreds of thousands of resources in a variety of formats.
Searching individual databases found using Databases A-Z is an alternative to researching using QuickSearch, the SRSU Library's discovery service.
This is because databases come in all shapes and sizes and contain information pertaining to different subject areas: Some broad and general and others very specific.
There are a few reasons why you might want to perform research in individual, subject-specific databases:
You’re researching something very specific and/or highly technical
You’re looking for comprehensive information in a defined discipline (see, for example, the offerings of SciFinder for Chemistry research)
You want to check out some of the beautiful and functional interfaces offered by niche databases like The American West or ArchiveGrid or CAMIO
